Meeting My Staging Idols – The Property Brothers

Few things are more exciting to me than meeting people that I really admire. As a self-proclaimed HGTV junkie, I was quite surprised when I stumbled across an airing of The Property Brothers, absolutely LOVED the show – only to find out they had been quite popular for several years. Where had I been? These two super-talented twins who excel in all things “home decor and staging” caught my attention with their talents and captured my heart with their charm and wit. I was an instant addict!

I had the pleasure of meeting the Scott Brothers at a staging conference that I attended in Charlotte, where they were the keynote speakers. To say they were inspiring is an understatement. They finish each other’s sentences and play off of each other as only siblings could and you just got the feeling that were really just a couple of nice guys. And that they were. 🙂 Autograph signings are so brief, so fleeting…you want to much to be able to really engage with them and ask them a zillion questions about everything! Maybe one day… 🙂

With over 8 television show, a production studio, a furniture line, commercial endorsements and the list goes on, these 2 brothers from Canada show no signs of slowing down. How lucky for us! Of all of their shows, my favorites areThe Property Brothersof course, where they show a family their dream home – way out of their budget. They then search for a fixer upper that the make into their dream home, staying within their budget. Their hilarious antics during the show and outtakes add so much to an already entertaining hour. What I find so enlightening are the issues that they find during a reno – from bad wiring to weak sub flooring. You learn the importance of checking behind those walls!

My other fav is Buying and Selling, where the Scott Brothers stage a home that the family is selling and fix up the new home that the couple is purchasing. As a stager, I have gained so much knowledge from watching the show – not only what is appealing to the eye but also what to look out for structurally. The existing homes look so nice after Jonathan has worked his magic that I wonder if they sellers ever change their minds and don’t want to move. 🙂

With so many home improvement shows and TV personalities, there is no shortage of great ideas, talent from which to be inspired and motivated. The two brothers from Canada have done just that – inspired and motivated me to continue learning as much as I can and to enjoy yourself while doing it!
